North Pike’s football game tonight at Germantown has been cancelled and won’t be rescheduled, North Pike officials announced Thursday afternoon.
Even with the game in Madison and out of the direct line of Isaac’s path, North Pike closed school until Tuesday and had multiple players without power.
“There was no way we could have gotten the team together,” North Pike athletic director Chuck Freeman said Thursday.
Freeman thanked Germantown administrators for their ability to work with North Pike as cleanup efforts began Thursday.
“They’ve bent over backwards to help us and assist us (with the game),” he said. “Their coach, athletic director and principal wanted to do what was in the best interest of our school and their school.”
North Pike will resume practice Tuesday in preparation for its first home game Sept. 7 with McComb.
“I kind of felt good about (the game) until (Wednesday) night,” North Pike coach Chris Smith said. “The storm came in so bad (Wednesday) night and we lost so much power … they are saying next week before it gets back on.”
