The North Pike softball team was shutout by Madison Central 4-0 at home Tuesday night and head coach Sonya Wallace attributed the loss to not playing well in all areas.
“It was just an all-around bad game,” Wallace said. “We didn’t make that many errors. We just didn’t hit. We had 12 strikeouts. You’ve got to go in there ready to play.”
Janiah Turner, Jami Spears and Sarah Brock all singled for the Lady Jaguars (4-3, 2-0), while losing pitcher Madison Bigner recorded eight strikeouts, gave up three walks, seven hits and hit two batters.
“We just didn’t show up to play tonight,” Wallace said. “We didn’t come out with the fight and intensity we’ve been playing with last week. Every time we walk on the field, we’ve just got to have the fight and intensity and be prepared to play whomever we are up against.”
Halee Morse of Madison Central was the winning pitcher recording 12 strikeouts, while giving up three hits.
Alexia Harmon had a triple and two singles for Madison Central, while Kristen Qualls, Mary Blair Odom, Mya Hopson and Nicole Bergeron all singled.
“Not taking anything away from Madison Central, they’re a good team,” Wallace said. “We just didn’t go out there and play like we were capable of playing tonight.”
The North Pike junior varsity beat Madison Central 3-1.
Linley Smith and Allie Grace Terrell singled for the Lady Jaguars.
North Pike has back-to-back district games on the road this week. The Lady Jaguars are at Purvis at 6:30 p.m. Thursday and at McComb at 6 p.m. Friday.
