MEADVILLE — The Franklin County Bulldogs celebrated senior night Friday, splitting a doubleheader with Jefferson County.
Franklin County’s girls won 71-51, while Jefferson County won a thriller in the boys game with a 68-65 double-overtime win.
The Lady Bulldogs (19-9, 8-4) jumped out to a 28-24 halftime advantage before exploding for a sizzling 43 points in the second half. Senior Shareka Hunt had a game-high 18 points and 12 rebounds, while senior Charlesa Houston added 12 points. Senior point guard Monea Cameron had 11 points and five assists. Monique Starks added 13 points.
The win marked the Lady Bulldogs’ sixth straight winning season.
For Jefferson County, the Lady Tigers got 17 points each from Erin Wells and Charlotte White. Brittany Wyatt added 13 points.
The Bulldogs (8-20, 5-7) used three crowd-pleasing dunks by Jamie Collins in the second quarter to take a 30-22 lead into halftime. Collins had eight of his team-high 15 points in the quarter as coach Chris Jordan’s crew ended the quarter on an 8-2 run.
Led by senior guard Percy Turner, the Tigers ended regulation tied with Franklin County at 55.
The Tigers (20-10, 11-1) stayed close with the Bulldogs, ending the first overtime tied once again at 60. Franklin County got five points from senior guard Jason Hunt in the last 53 seconds to keep the game alive.
Franklin County ran out of gas in the second overtime, as Jefferson County’s Kadon Day scored four of his game-high 24 points. Jefferson County’s Turner ended the game with 18 points.
The victory wrapped up first place in the division for Jefferson County at 11-1.
For the Bulldogs, Collins had 15 points and 10 boards. Senior Jarvis Hunt added 14 points, Jordan Hunt had 10 points and seven rebounds, while senior Jason Hunt had eight points.
