Jimmy Johns, a linebacker for the University of Alabama from 2005-08 and former quarterback at Brookhaven High School, will be holding his second annual football camp for ages 6 to 18 at McComb High School Friday and Saturday.
The camp runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
Coaches assisting Johns at the camp will be former Auburn linebacker Steve Gandy, who is from Wayne County, former Mississippi State defensive back Jasper O’Quinn and former All-State kicker at Brookhaven High School Will Thibodeaux, who is the school’s all-time leading scorer. Franklin County senior wide receiver De’martre Collins, whose cousin is New England Patriots linebacker Jamie Collins, will also be at the camp along with athletes from McComb and North Pike high schools.
Former McComb All-State kicker and punter Ben Craddock will be the guest speaker.
“He’s going to talk about, not just the football side, but also about life, about different opportunities, about life after football, about jobs, about business,” Johns said. “I think there’s so much more to life than just football. We want to give those kids that.”
There will be MVP trophies along with fastest man and 7-on-7 competitions. A child will also receive an autographed glove from former Alabama and current Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones.
“He’s the best receiver in the league,” Johns said. “Julio is a good friend of mine, played at Alabama with me.”
Former Ole Miss and New Orleans Saints running back Deuce McAllister will also be donating items for kids.
Enrollement in the camp is $25 for children ages 12 and younger and $40 for children 13 and older. Registration forms can be picked up at Keith White Ford-Lincoln, Southern Sports and CrossFit in McComb. Forms can also be found at https://www.eventbrite.com.
