South Pike forward Jamaya Carter scored a career-high 28 points and pulled down 22 points Tuesday night in a 61-20 beatdown at Purvis.
“She had an excellent game,” South Pike girls coach Janice Felder said. “Most of her points came down low.”
Guard Akayla Powell chipped in with 14 points. Jacynta Stepter and Breyuana Goode had six points each, while LaDereka McNeil had four points.
South Pike improved to 13-5 and 1-0 in Region 7-4A with the win. The Lady Eagles return home Friday to host Columbia at 6 p.m. The boys game will tip off at 7:30.
South Pike’s boys team dropped a 70-44 decision to Purvis on Tuesday. The Eagles fell to 4-14 and 0-1 in district play.
It’s been a rough rebuilding year for South Pike thus far. The Eagles finished 21-8 last season and runner-up to Columbia.
South Pike did lose its top three scorers, however. Deangelo Coleman and D’Querias Bullock both used up their eligibility and forward Stacey Mack transferred to McComb.
In other action Monday, South Pike’s seventh grade girls team beat Alexander Junior High, 14-4. Beyonce Coney scored six points and Shanayah Hayes had four.
