Sarah Brock’s 2-run triple led to four runs in the top of the eighth inning for North Pike Friday night as well as the team’s third victory of the week. The Lady Jaguars won at Oak Grove 6-2 in eight innings.
Games normally last seven innings. Since it was tied 2-2 at the end of the seventh, an extra inning was played. The international style tiebreaker rule put a runner on second base to start the eighth and Linley Smith and Whitley Howell scored on Sarah Brock’s double.
“We ended up scoring four runs in the top of the eighth and then we came in and shut them down on defense,” North Pike head softball coach Sonya Wallace said. “We were able to lay down some bunts and move some runners and had a big hit by Sarah Brock to score the first two runs to go ahead.”
Howell also connected on a 1-run single in the fourth to score Smith.
Pitcher Madison Bigner threw all eight innings for the Lady Jaguars, giving up two runs, three hits and five walks, while recording seven strikeouts.
Sarah Brock was 3-5 with one run and two RBIs; Janiah Talbert was 1-4 with one walk; Madison Bates was 1-5; Bigner was 1-4 with one RBI and one walk; Jordan Fitzgerald was 0-2 with one walk and one run; Jenna Brock was 2-4; Smith was 0-3 with two runs and one walk; and Howell was 1-3 with one run, one RBI and one walk.
