BOGUE CHITTO — The Mount Olive High School football team defeated the home standing Bogue Chitto Bobcats 8-0 in Region 4-1A action Friday night at Troy Smith Field on the campus of Bogue Chitto.
The Bobcats (1-3) have been celebrating homecoming this week.
As the teams prepared to take the field for pregame, Mother Nature decided to open the flood gates, and the showers began.
When the rain began to clear up, lightning began to flash through the sky and delayed the ballgame for almost two hours.
The homecoming festivities were held in Bogue Chitto gym.
After all the delays both teams were able to get ready and step on to Troy Smith field to start the game.
Coming into the game the Pirates were 0-2, but got their first win Friday.
The Bobcats kicked off to start the game. At the 10-minute mark, the Bobcats’ Bo Smithers recovered a fumble, but Bogue Chitto did not capitalize.
Bogue Chitto kicker Cameron Price lined the kick up and was slightly off the mark.
In the second quarter, heavy rain began to fall.
The Bobcats’ defense was able to force a fumble but the Mount Olive Pirates was able to recover a fumble in the second quarter.
James Allred for the Bobcats was able to jump on a loose ball and put the Bobcats offense in good field position. The drive was stalled out and the Pirates got the ball game. Both teams went into the locker room with no score on the scoreboard.
At the 2:00 minute mark in the third quarter, Tray McNair caught an interception and returned in for a touchdown and the two point conversion was good.
In the fourth quarter, both teams had some good drives.
Mount Olive was threatening to get in the end zone, but the Bobcats defense shut them out.
The Bobcats started making their comeback but the Pirates defense denied them when D’Juan McNair caught an interception.
Defensively for the Bobcats, Bo Smithers lead the team in tackle with 12. Kobe Roberts, Brandon McKenzie, Kody Halford, and Will Fauver contributed with 8 tackles a piece. Matthew Black had 7 tackle for the night.
Bogue Chitto is at Sacred Heart at 7 p.m. Friday.
