South Pike's star EDGE Micah Nickerson announced Sunday that he would be decommitting from Mississippi State and instead pledging to join Missouri next year.
The senior had been committed to the in-state Bulldogs since he visited Starkville in June, but Eli Drinkwitz and the Tiger coaching staff ramped up their recruitment of Nickerson during the ensuing months.
The 6-foot-5 prospect took a visit to Columbia for Mizzou's game against South Carolina on Sept. 20, and that trip certainly seemed to make an impact.
The imposing edge rusher has already recorded a handful of multi-sack games this season to go along with a scoop-and-score, as Nickerson has been a force in pass-rush scenarios and boasts a strong yet rangy frame that D-I schools were drawn toward.
And while his main gig is on defense, Nickerson also dabbles as a tight end, and he notably made a last-second, game-tying touchdown grab during South Pike's season-opening game against Bay Springs:
Per reports, Nickerson will not be signing any official paperwork until the formal Signing Day period in early February.
Nickerson and the Eagles (2-3) have a bye week before they host Lawrence County (0-5) on Oct. 10 for their district-opener.
