South Pike saw a pair of stars from its district-title winning teams commit to continue their basketball careers at the collegiate level Thursday in Magnolia.
From the girls side, dynamic forward Alaysha Williams signed to play for Northeast Mississippi Community College next year. Williams was a standout defensive player for the Lady Eagles, as she became notorious for being a menace in the full-court press and was a key cog in South Pike's district-title season.
Jovon Leavy represented the boys team, and the 1,000-point scorer will play for former NBA star star Clarence Weatherspoon at Meridian. Leavy was the driving force of an Eagles team which mounted a magical postseason run that ended at the Final Four in the Jackson Coliseum, as his ability to score at all three levels propelled South Pike to success.
