Former South Pike Eagle Ja'Borri McGhee announced that he would be playing a bit closer to home Sunday.
The 6-foot-1 guard spent the 2024 season with UAB, and after a highly successful campaign with the Blazers, McGhee has parlayed his strong play into an opportunity to suit up for Mississippi State.
McGhee originally played at South Pike but moved to Winfield, Al. to continue his playing career as an upperclassmen in high school.
After starring there, McGhee then played for Garden City C.C. (Kansas) and South Plains C.C. (Texas), becoming one of the top JUCO prospects in the nation over that time.
With UAB in 2024, McGhee started 37 games and averaged 11.1 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.1 steals per game. He also shot over 50% from the floor and 40% from behind the arc, helping the Blazers to a 24-13 overall record.
McGhee joins an MSU program that has reached new heights under head coach Chris Jans, qualifying for three-straight NCAA Tournaments in a historically strong SEC.
And with strong backcourt play being a newfound tradition in Starkville, McGhee will look to become the latest star guard to don the maroon and white while leading the Bulldogs past the First Round of the tournament for the first time since 2008.
