The third-seeded South Pike boys basketball team sprung an upset over second-seeded Forrest County in the opening round of the MHSAA 4A playoffs on Tuesday, picking up a 56-42 road win.
Fresh off a 27-point performance in his team's district tournament win over McComb last Friday, guard Kaleb Brumfield again led the Eagles with 19 points to go along with five steals.
Meanwhile, fellow guards Ashton Patterson and Jimmy Brister also finished in double-figures, with the former posting a dozen points on 5-for-10 shooting while the latter tacked on 10 points and five assists.
Up next, the Eagles will have to travel again when they face top-seeded Raymond in the second round of the bracket.
That game will be played at 6 p.m. on Saturday, with the victor squaring off with whoever emerges between No. 1 Leake Central and No. 2 Columbia in the quarterfinals.
