With South Pike and McComb's basketball teams matched up in the consolation games of the Region Seven 4A Tournament, the Eagles came out on top in a pair of clashes that came down to the final quarter.
The Lady Eagles started things off by picking up a 47-38 win over the Lady Tigers, which allowed them to lock up a No. 3 seed in the upcoming MHSAA 4A Playoffs. McComb's girls team will be a No. 4 in the same bracket.
Forward Aniyah Varnado posted a double-double for SP, recording 10 points and the same amount of rebounds. Guard Shalia Johnson added another 10 points and seven assists.
South Pike's girls squad fell to Columbia in Thursday's semifinals, while the Lady Tigers took down Poplarville on Tuesday before losing to Lawrence County on Thursday.
In the following games, South Pike's boys team was led by 27 points from guard Kaleb Brumfield as it secured a hard-fought 55-49 win over McComb. Similar to the girls, this means that the Eagles will be a No. 3 seed in the upcoming 4A bracket, while the Tigers will be a No. 4.
Brumfield finished 8-for-11 from the floor and 4-for-5 from behind the arc, and forward Eddie Simmons tacked on a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
McComb's boys team beat Poplarville on Tuesday before dropping a game to Columbia on Thursday, while South Pike fell to Lawrence County the same night.
