The inaugural season of girls flag football in Mississippi is set to conclude this weekend at Picayune High School, as the dozen teams that have participated in the league's pilot season will take part in "Championship Saturday."
South Pike (4-1) and McComb (2-3) each qualified for the postseason bracket after they finished in the top four of the "Saints Black" division. Now, the Lady Eagles and Lady Tigers will look to mount a magical postseason run.
The two schools will hit the gridiron at 10 a.m. Saturday, with top-seeded South Pike facing Perry Central while fourth-seeded McComb takes on unbeaten East Central.
Should they win those games, the teams would move on to compete in the semifinals at 2:30 p.m. The championship game would then take place at 4:30 p.m.
There will be an awards ceremony for all teams that participated in the league as well.
For fans, gates will open at 9 a.m. and admission is $10 for all (kids ages six and under get in free). There will be concessions available.
