South Pike officials are looking to sell some old equipment and exploring the installation of newer equipment at Eva Gordon Elementary School.
District Maintenance Director Mike Scott told school board members that the old lights and poles from the football field should be sold rather than reused for a new softball field at Eva Gordon.
“We talked about using these at Eva Gordon, but they’re just beat-up junk,” Scott said. “Entergy can put up better equipment for cheaper.”
Scott said the owners of Richard Community Center are interested in the old lighting equipment, but the district has to put the equipment up for bid.
When the district is ready to build a softball field at the site, it will need significant preparation, he said.
“People from the community are riding four-wheelers out there and tearing it up,” Scott said. “We need to put up a fence.”
Charges have been filed over the matter, but as of the meeting day on Sept. 9, “the city has not pursued them yet,” Scott said.
