Entergy Mississippi customers will see a decrease in their electric rates next month. This comes eight months after Entergy announced a six-month increase in November of last year.
Entergy officials told customers in November that the rate increase of about $2 per month for customers using 1,000 kilowatt hours of electricity was to help offset natural gas costs.
The Mississippi Public Service Commission voted Tuesday for a rate reduction as natural gas prices have dropped by nearly half.
Next month, customers using 1,000 kilowatt hours per month will pay an estimated $136.80, down $7.08 from June.
“We’re thankful to the Mississippi Public Service Commission for approving this decrease in rates, which allows our customers to save money. It comes at a crucial time, when the Mississippi heat tends to cause high energy usage,” said CEO Haley Fisackerly. “We hope this savings will help customers feel some relief from the heat and in their wallets at a time when they need it most."
The commission also voted Tuesday to revise the company’s responsibilities to trim vegetation near its power lines.
