With hoops season now in full swing, all of Pike County's basketball teams were in action this weekend.
On Friday night, North Pike and South Pike clashed in a pair of games to kick off the McComb Lion's Club Tournament. And the Jaguars completed the sweep, as the girls team took down the Lady Eagles by a score of 46-29 before the boys side narrowly pulled out a 49-44 victory.
Guard Quinterious Thompson led the boys with 28 points in the win, scoring a dozen in the third quarter alone to propel his team to a 17-6 run after coming out of the half tied at 25.
"My team stuck together even when South Pike continued making run after run," North Pike boys head coach Terrell Anderson said. "And it was a tough game at their place with a nice crowd watching. This is the first time we've matched up in several years, so it was fun and I’m sure the community enjoyed it."
Meanwhile, McComb ventured up to Bogue Chitto and swept the Bobcats on Friday. The Lady Tigers took home a hard-fought 38-36 win while the boys' squad cruised to a 68-37 victory.
And on Saturday, North Pike's teams completed their run in the Lion's Club Tournament. The Lady Jags defeated Lawrence County 41-38, as Alexis Jones led the way with 15 points while Kadence Jordan tacked on eight. De'Asia Hudson paced her side with eight rebounds and three assists, and the team as a whole racked up six steals.
The boys team narrowly beat the Cougars 42-41 after jumping out to a 24-11 advantage at halftime. Thompson led the Jags again with 20 points, while Kentravious Johnson finished with eight and recorded some key blocks and rebounds. Nicholas Carmel tacked on six points as well.
Also on Saturday, McComb's teams faced off with Franklin County at the Lion's Club Tournament. The boys side picked up a 56-48 win while the Lady Tigers fell by a score of 51-31.
Rounding out the area schools, Parklane's basketball teams welcomed Oak Forest for a pair of games Saturday. The Lady Pioneers moved to 11-1 on the season with a dominant 59-39 win, while the boys team dropped a close 49-44 contest.
