In the championship game of the MAIS 5A state playoffs, Parklane’s girls basketball team lost a close 42-38 contest to fellow top seed East Rankin on Saturday in Greenwood.
The Lady Pioneers were led in scoring by the backcourt duo of freshman Carlyle Carruth and junior Zoe Alford, who combined for 35 points and made 5-of-9 shots from behind the arc.
Carruth also reeled in 14 rebounds to pace Parklane, while junior Anna Sawyer tacked on seven boards to go along with her nine points.
Senior Sydney Brewer assisted on four made buckets, while freshman Lay Jackson and Carruth each recorded a pair of steals.
The Lady Pioneers gear up for the overall MAIS state playoffs next week, which will be played at Mississippi College.
They open up their final postseason run with a matchup against Columbus Christian, the 2A champion. The first-round game will take place either Monday or Tuesday as of now.
