WHY A CHILD DIED
Our elected leaders have neglected and ignored the crime spree in McComb. People had already begun to avoid Central Park due to loud, vulgar music blasting from cars and profanity-yelling basketball players. Our leaders at least need to admit there is a violent culture in McComb. The death of this child was the result of a festering, corrupt culture that churches, families and schools will not address.
THE IMPACT OF TV AND MOVIES
While watching an old feel-good happy movie on TV, I was reminded that today’s prime-time TV shows are programs that shape the minds of young people. What should society expect when we kill and kill and deal in dope for our nightly entertainment on every major network? No wonder some young people adopt that behavior into their daily lives.
TROUBLE HAS BEEN BREWING
The tragic shooting at the McComb park is nothing new. I have had two friends who lived within three blocks of that park who were afraid to sleep in their front bedroom because of the nightly gunfire in the street in front of their house. One friend had a drug dealer across the street. If the neighbors know about dealers and gunfire, why don’t the police? Both of these friends have now left McComb.
WHAT HASN’T WORKED
The solution to the crime spree is not “Catch and Release.” One of the drive-by suspects was out on bond for another drive-by shooting in 2021. If he had been in a detention center, maybe that murdered child could be alive. Citizens want to get the criminals out of the neighborhoods. Voters should find out each candidate’s solution to McComb’s crime problem. McComb was better, and we can be better again with effective elected leaders.
ASK PARENTS, NOT SCHOOLS
I wondered how long it would take for the schools to be blamed for the violence in Pike County. Not long, apparently! Mayor Witherspoon, instead of criticizing school leaders for not being at the Feb. 27 crime forum, why are you not asking where the parents are? Schools can only use what they are given. Right now, it's a generation of young people who have no respect for anyone or anything, and who have been allowed to do as they please with no consequences.
LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR
Wake up McComb! You are 150 years old this year. Will you be here 50 years from now? 10 years? Will you self-destruct by becoming so caught up in your own self-centeredness that you disregard all respect for your fellow man, law and order? There is only one solution; it is found in God’s Holy Word, the Bible. Love God Jesus Christ with all your heart, soul and might. Love your neighbor as yourself.
POLITICAL THEATER
The McComb elections should be real theater! I have never seen so much indecisiveness in my life with candidates switching offices, jumping in and jumping out. I hope the final results will yield a cohesive, rational board to lead McComb forward come July.
MADE IN CHINA
My government-issued, free “at-home covid testing kit” says “Made in China.” Neither your doctor nor employer will accept your test results! People will test positive and not report, which will drive down numbers. The perfect plan.
WAG THE DOG
Biden and Democrats are promoting the Ukraine conflict to take attention from what’s happening in the U.S.
DOCTOR’S ORDERS
We need a rheumatologist in McComb.
