WELCOME, CHIEF CLOY
Good luck to McComb’s new police chief. Let us all pray that our new chief gets the support he needs to turn crime around. It will take citizens supporting him as well as his new bosses. It only benefits our community to welcome him with open arms and let’s all try to make this a safe community again.
McCOMB NEEDS A SUCCESSFUL CHIEF
I hope Chief Cloy is the chief for many, many years and is a success. The City of McComb City has been through how many police chiefs, administrators and others? Seems like the problem is not with the appointees but maybe the appointors. This board needs to set policies for the departments and let the department heads run their departments. Payback for perceived wrongs of the past only creates more problems going forward. That’s all for now.
NO MORE POLICE ESCORTS
I was shocked to hear that the McComb police will no longer provide escorts or roadblocks for funeral processions. Every driver is own their own to keep up with the procession. What a horrible policy and safety issue.
CRIME AND CONSEQUENCES
Business owners are rational entrepreneurs; therefore, they will not open nor remain in high crime rate cities. Also, citizens do not want to live in high crime rate cities. It is necessary for elected officials to create an atmosphere conducive to investment in businesses and home ownership. The first step is to admit there is a problem and define it. The second step is to hold all criminals accountable. McComb’s elected officials seldom, or never, mention crime statistics.
SHORT AND TO THE POINT
God bless Judge David Brewer. That’s my two cents.
MORE PRAISE FOR YOUTH COURT JUDGE
If you commit a crime and act as an adult, you should be punished as an adult. That’s a big part of the problem, these kids go out there and commit crime after crime without getting a slap on the wrist, so they think there are no consequences and the crimes just keep getting worse. This goes on and on, but if there were more like Judge Brewer maybe it wouldn’t go that far.
OUTDATED SIGNS
It isn’t that unusual to see tons of candidate yard signs this time of year. It is disappointing, however, to still see signs for a judge that was elected November 8, 2022.
WHERE ARE THE WITNESSES?
In recent drive-by shootings, it seems there is never a witness. Color blindness occurs. When someone in Blue does their job, there are plenty of witnesses and even videos. Several avenues exist to remain anonymous. If you want a safe neighborhood say something. Today’s culture waits till an innocent victim is killed and the question that follows is, when are the men and women in Blue going to do their job?
WHY PEOPLE DON’T CALL THE LAW
The reason people don’t call law enforcement with information is that they don’t trust them.
ABOUT REDUCED CAR TAG TAXES
Few people understand that lowering car tags increases property taxes. More people pay for car tags than property taxes. Higher property taxes from a smaller tax base produces more tax dollars from fewer people. Taxes should be a little from everyone, not more from a few. Everyone should pay some tax to give a feeling of responsibility and ownership in the community.
PESSIMISTIC ABOUT A NEW JAIL
I predict there won’t be a new Pike County jail in the next five years. Hope they can fix the roads in that time.
SHERIFF'S OFFICE LOCATION
The candidates for sheriff need to come out and say if they support leaving all the sheriff’s offices in the back of the old National Guard Armory or if they will put it back on Jesse Hall Road where it belongs.
QUITE A SUMMER FOR SKITTLES
Less than 1% identify as sexually confused but 99% must conform. Going after candy to recruit children is an all-time low. Some Skittles bags now have the words of “queer, gay and lesbian” on the label. Explain to a 6-year-old what queer means. What’s next? Cracker Jill with a picture of a trans man? Parents need to wake up and protect our future!
TRANSGENDER EQUITY
This phenomenon is causing unnecessary problems for all. The solution is really quite simple. Since there seems to be a rapidly increasing number of transgender athletes in all sports, why not just start “leagues of their own?” They can field a team, secure sponsors, build facilities and have award banquets. Team owners could invest and make millions. Happiness and equity would win!
AMERICA NEEDS A SPIRITUAL REVIVAL
While watching the “news,” it occurred to me that what this country needs is a Spiritual Revival! Where is someone like Billy Graham? Are there any spiritual leaders left? Too many of our mainline denominations are currently more interested in political correctness than in Christian principles.
PAY ATTENTION TO FRIEND REQUESTS
Beware of Facebook! I keep getting friend requests from people who did not make a request. One was from my wife, who says she certainly did not request. And one was from a person who died several years ago. I can’t find anywhere in my King James version of The Holy Bible where it mentions wifi access in heaven.
FOCUS ON ACADEMICS
Reading and math proficiency are at an all-time low while grade inflation and lowered graduation requirements are embraced as solutions. Academics should be the only focus of schools. Administrators, teachers and school boards are becoming more concerned with promoting social and political activism at the expense of a rigorous academic curriculum. This is a profound disservice to those who place trust in them — parents, students, and communities.
SUMMIT COMMITTEE NEEDS IDEAS
What does Summit need with a planning committee? Seems to me that they never bring any ideas to the board to help Summit to grow or develop. Maybe we just need someone with a vision for Summit.
LESS TALK, MORE ACTION
While watching a city board work session, and the on and on and on discussion about pothole repair, I was reminded of an old song: “We need a little less talk and a lot more action.”
BOIL WATER NOTICES
For future reference, any time McComb issues a boil water notice, it should hand out a least two cases of water per resident. We are paying extremely high water bills and the inconvenience should be borne by City Hall, not an already burdened citizen.
