I have to admit that I would never have imagined that I would have laughed so much by reading one of Bro. Mike Dykes’ columns, specifically the one in the Aug. 18 edition of the paper titled, “I’m getting on that plane.”
I can’t tell you how many times I absolutely burst out laughing when I read the column. I’m sure it wasn’t funny, not at all, to Bro. Mike at the time, but I can tell you now, as he stated in his article, that the devil was trying to make his life as miserable as possible by holding him up. And I have to say I do believe the devil succeeded, and I think Bro. Mike would probably agree.
To me, the columns Bro. Mike writes are, let’s just say, usually a little more sedate and a little more serious. But as you could tell in this column, he was definitely “getting on that plane, no matter what!
I applaud him for not giving in and not giving up, because I imagine a lot of people would have.
Who would have thought that a preacher, especially one that was on his second tour of Iraq in support of our troops, could be so comical? Maybe not exactly on purpose, but still ...
You would really need to read his entire column to truly appreciate Bro. Mike’s humor. You know how they sometimes say truth is stranger then fiction? Point taken.
There is definitely one thing we all know about Bro. Mike. And that is he’s not one to give up. Because if he had, it’s anybody’s guess where he would have wound up. To Bro. Mike I say, “atta boy.”
