Sarah Jane Redding Barton, 78, of McComb, formerly of Dundalk, Md., died Dec. 20, 2007, at McComb Nursing and Rehab.
Visitation will be Wednesday at Connelly Funeral Home, 7110 Sollers Point Road, Dundalk, Md., from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Watersedge Baptist Church in Dundalk with the Rev. David Erickson officiating. Burial will be in Meadow Ridge Memorial Park in Baltimore.
Mrs. Barton was born Jan. 14, 1929, in Elkton, Md. She was the daughter of John A. Redding, Sr. and Mary Alderson. She was a homemaker, a member of Central Baptist Church in McComb, and a former member of Watersedge Baptist Church in Baltimore, where she was a very active member of the Senior Group, W.M.U. and children’s activities, including Bible school. She was a former Girl Scout leader.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 60 years, Joseph Edward Barton Sr., who died in August 2007; one son, Richard Alan Barton; one brother, William M. Redding and two sisters, Ruth Redding Dixon and Emily Redding Bland Green.
Survivors include three sons and a daughter-in-law, Joseph Edward Barton Jr. and Elaine of Neosha, Md., Michael Barton Sr. of Chase, Md., and John Phillip Barton of Houston, Texas; three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Doug Bowser of McComb, Ruth and Dennis Burks of Eudora, Kan., and Patricia and Dan Dekowsky Sr. of Chase, Md.; one brother, John A. Redding, Jr. and wife Irene of Chestertown, Md.; one sister-in-law, Betty Redding of Wilmington, Del.; a childhood friend, Naomi Harris of Belaire, Md.; 14 grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two expected great-grandchildren; 25 stepgreat-grandchildren; three stepgreat-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Joseph Barton Jr., Michael Barton Sr., John Phillip Barton, Douglas Bowser, Dan Dekowsky Sr., Michael Barton Jr.,Dan Dekowsky Jr. and Dennis Burks.
Jones Family Funeral Services in McComb is in charge of local arrangements.
