McComb Rotarians will vote next week on a proposal to spend $40,000 on the McComb Railroad Museum as part of a long-term project.
Past president Landon Woodall, chairman of a long-term project committee, outlined the plans at Wednesday’s regular meeting.
Railroad Museum official Winnie Len Howell will speak to the club next week, the same day members are slated to vote by secret ballot.
Woodall said the proposed $40,000 is coming from cash reserves the club has on hand, and the club will be recognized for its contribution, possibly with a room named for Rotary.
Among proposals in the expansion is a scale model of the McComb railroad depot area, including model trains, as it looked during the heyday of the railroad industry here in the 1950s and 1960s. Another is a display area for valuable memorabilia dating to the 1940s contributed by an anonymous donor.
Also on the program Wednesday were speeches by three high school seniors who were sponsored by the local Rotary Club at this year’s Rotary Youth Leadership Awards.
RYLA is a summer camp that focuses on leadership fundamentals and ethics, communication skills, problem solving and conflict management and community and global citizenship.
Local students attending this year were Hayes Thompson of North Pike, Katie Kalusche of McComb and Jack Dumas of Parklane.
