Richard “Dick” E. Beaman, 78, of Indianapolis, died Aug. 4, 2009, at his home.
Services were Saturday at Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Mr. Beaman was born March 10, 1931, in Indianapolis to the late Samuel H. and Hilda C. Wickliff Beaman.
He graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1948 and attended Purdue Technical Institute and International Correspondence School, receiving his professional engineers and land surveying licenses at age 26. He established Beaman Associate Architects and Engineers in 1958, for which he was chief executive officer until his retirement in 1998.
The firm designed and built many shopping centers, churches and commercial buildings in the Indianapolis area and throughout the Midwest. He was a pilot and flew for business and pleasure for 40 years. He also was a member of Southport Lodge No. 270 F&AM, Indianapolis Valley of Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine and Flying Fez.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Bonnie B. Beaman; and a brother, Max.
Survivors include his loving wife of 44 years Elizabeth Vernon Beaman; sons Richard Beaman Jr. of New Orleans, Robert E. Beaman and wife Robin of Bargersville, Ind., William Beaman and wife Mary, David Beaman and Robert A. Beaman, all of Indianapolis; a daughter, Rebecca Teeguarden and husband Dave of Greenfield, Ind.; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and sister Nancy Jackson and husband C.E. of McComb.
