Mildred H. Simmons, 83, of McComb, died July 5, 2008, at Southwest Mississippi Regional medical Center in McComb.
Visitation is 5 to 8 tonight at Jones Family Funeral Services in McComb and 9 a.m. Tuesday until services there at 10 a.m. The Rev. Gwyn Waycaster will officiate. Burial will be in Allen Cemetery in Magnolia.
Mrs. Simmons was born July 1, 1925, in East St. Louis, Mo. She was the daughter of Charles Crawford Sr. and Nora Ella Kierce Green.
She moved from Kentucky to McComb in 1966. She was a teacher who later in life enjoyed homemaking. She graduated from Mississippi State College for Women and was a member of Storehouse Church of McComb. Her family said she loved and enjoyed all of them very much. She enjoyed her flowers, bluebirds and antiques. She also loved cooking and canning; to her it was a recreation and a great source of joy. To this day, her recipes are enjoyed by her family. She loved the Lord and will be sadly missed by her family.
Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by her parents and adoptive parents, Clyde and Maybelle Hopkins; her husband of 27 years, Rex R. Simmons Sr.; a brother, Charles Crawford Jr.; and a sister, Joan Green.
Survivors include a son, Rex R. Simmons Jr. and wife Debbie Patterson of Magnolia; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna Kay and Gene O. Baucom of Oktaha, Okla.; two sisters, Betty Lou Johnson and Thelma Morris, both of Clinton, Ky.; four grandchildren, Alexandra Dawn Johnson and husband Jamie, Stacey Tamor and husband Dr. Keith Tamor, Sunny Martin and husband Dale, and Samuel Dale Murphy; seven great-grandchildren; a special niece, Gayle Simmons; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Dale Murphy, Dale Martin, Rome Simmons and Jamie Johnson. Honorary pallbearers are Howard W. Alford, Hollis Alford, George W. “Buddy” Simmons and Jimmy Alford.
