Elbert Allwyn “Sticks” Kuyrkendall, 70, of Magnolia, and Tampa, Fla., died July 2, 2008, at his residence in Tampa.
Visitation is 9:30 a.m. Friday at Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Home in McComb until services there at 1 p.m. The Rev. Willie Westmoreland will officiate, and burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery in Magnolia.
Mr. Kuyrkendall was born May 26, 1938, in Magnolia. He was the son of the late Ray Lee and Carrie Pezant Kuyrkendall.
He starred in football, baseball and basketball at Magnolia High School, where he was voted cutest boy, most athletic and Mr. MHS. He graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in business. He was a mortgage banker for most of his professional career and retired from Union Planters Bank.
Survivors include a son, Jeff Kuyrkendall of Tampa; a daughter, Denise Smith of Baton Rouge; grandchildren, Meghan and Dylan Smith of Baton Rouge; great-grandson, Blaise Carter of Baton Rouge; a brother, Roger Kuyrkendall of Laurel; two sisters, Patsy Packer of Clinton and Shirley Nabors of Nashville; a sister-in-law, Hazel Kuyrkendall of Brandon; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Randy Kuyrkendall, Jason Spears, J.C. Passman, Eddie Daix, Ronald Simmons and Bryan Harris. Honorary pallbearers are Eldridge Boyd, Robert Duncan and Cecil Packer.
