Eddie Williams Sr., 86, of Summit and formerly of Liberty, died June 8, 2008, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center.
Visitation is 5 to 7 tonight at Young’s Funeral Home in Summit. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Olive Baptist Church II in Liberty, with the Rev. Roosevelt Nunnery officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Williams was born Sept. 30, 1921, in Liberty, the eldest son of Matthew and Amanda Croson Williams.
He worked at the River Bend Nuclear Plant in St. Francisville, La., and was the owner of Williams Logging in Amite County. He was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church II. He was a devoted Christian who loved his family and adored his friends. His family said no one needed to ask for a helping hand, he just gave them one. Sickness did not dampen his spirits. He loved to comfort those around him, a genuine act of unselfish love he continued to perform until the last moment of his last day.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Fannie Mae Jones Williams; sister, Mary Winding of Milwaukee; and son, Eddie Williams Jr. of Liberty.
His survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Curtis Williams of Summit and Allen and Anna Williams of Baton Rouge; five daughters and three sons-in-law, LeeEster and Sonny Jackson, Jannie Williams Bates, Ina and Bishop Roy Dickerson, and Debbie Nunnery, all of Summit, and Sharon and Alvie Mixon of LaPlace, La.; two special grandchildren whom he reared, Trinell Huff and husband Jackie of Summit, and Alvin Bates and wife Kimberly of LaPlace; a brother, Deacon Ive Williams and wife Mary of Summit; a daughter-in-law, Carol Williams of Liberty; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and church family; close friends, Leiva Robinson of Summit, Ilonia Chandler of Liberty, Mary Ella Caston of Brookhaven, as well as many more great friends.
