Kick off December by visiting Santa and his elves at the McComb Depot, which will house model train villages and give children the opportunity to write letters to Santa.
“A Magical Visit with Santa” will be held 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 1 and is free to the public. Sponsored by the McComb Railroad Museum, the event will follow the McComb Christmas parade and takes place from the McComb Depot to the caboose at the antique train display.
Museum director Winnie Len Howell said about 40 volunteers will help with the event.
“People can start in the Depot or the cars; there’s entertainment in both places,” Howell said. “If you start at the Depot, you have the Christmas Snow Village, Christmas music playing and the children can get down on the floor and play with the train setup. In the museum itself will be Santa and his elves.”
A miniature Chuggington Train set-up will be on hand for children to ride.
Additionally, as people walk down to the rail cars, they can enter through the 1883 office car, where elves will sing and interact with children. A magician will perform tricks as he strolls around the scene, and Mrs. Santa will bake muffins in the office car.
“In the Rail Post Office Car, children can write letters to Santa, and there’s a mailbox to put the letters in,” Howell said.
People can also climb up the cupola of the caboose to enjoy views of the area.
