Alfred Lee Felder
Alfred Lee Felder, 80, of Summit, passed away Aug. 15, 2024, in McComb.
Visitation is 4 p.m. Monday at Sharkey Funeral Home in Summit until services there at 6. Elder Al Felder and Bro. Danny Speed will officiate.
He was born March 18, 1944, in Jackson.
Alfred was the valedictorian of the very first graduating class at North Pike High School. During his time at North Pike, he is credited as the originator of the school’s mascot, the Jaguars.
He married his high school sweetheart, Cherrie. Never able to get up the nerve to ask her out, Cherrie eventually took the initiative and invited him to a Valentine’s banquet at church.
After high school, Alfred went on to Southwest Mississippi Community College, where he played basketball. From there he went on to attend the University of Mississippi. He walked on as a tennis player and was honored to be inducted into the Ole Miss Rebel M Club. He graduated from the University of Mississippi Law School in 1969 and also holds a bachelor’s degree in English.
For over 50 years, Alfred practiced as an attorney, even up until the time of his recent illness. He owned his own practice in McComb, Felder Law Firm.
There were many highlights to his fascinating career, including an interview with Mike Wallace from 60 Minutes back in the 1990s. Because of his intelligence and tenacity, several of his cases reached the Supreme Court, where he held an 80% success rate. One such case dealt with the standard of care in the healthcare system in Mississippi, which made an enormous impact on new laws within the state.
Alfred was adored by his grandchildren, and he had a fierce love for his family. He was famous for cooking his signature dishes such as red beans and rice, garlic butter bread, and mushroom steak sauce. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
The family would like to acknowledge the many others that helped care for Alfred: Jodi Waller, FNP, Camelia Estates, and Dr. Brett Ferman, the Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center emergency department and the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

His sense of humor made him the family jokester. As a talented woodworker, Terry made priceless memories teaching his grandchildren how to build chairs and other pieces of furniture.
