Formally named Mildred Lucille Watts at birth Jan. 8, 1920, Lucille was the fourth child born to Judson and Elizabeth Elzara Tarver Watts in Brookhaven. Later in Lucille’s childhood her family moved to Summit. Lucille lived in Summit through her high school years and until her marriage.
In 1942 Lucille married James Elwin “Peg” Terrell of the Mars Hill Community in Amite County, where they made a home for themselves and their two daughters.
Lucille worked for the Kellwood Co. in both McComb and Fernwood for 55 years, as a very dedicated employee. Once retiring at the age of 75, Lucille was off for a short span when Kellwood called wanting her to return to work. Being the dedicated person she was, she returned and worked until age 80. What a remarkable devotion she had to her job and her Kellwood family.
As a young girl Lucille was a member of Mount Gilead Primitive Baptist Church. After marrying Elwin, Lucille became a very active member of his family church, Adams United Methodist Church. She was a regular in her Sunday school class, Sunday church services, revival services and all church gatherings. She was known for making her delicious homemade chicken pie, and her homemade rolls for the church functions.
Along with being a devoted wife and loving mother, Lucille was a fabulous cook and took great pleasure in baking cakes and brownies for her very loved grandchildren and great-grandchildren each time they came to visit, along with shipping her baked items to them periodically throughout the year.
Preceding Lucille in death were her parents; her husband, James Elwin “Peg” Terrell; a grandson, Marshall Blake Finnell; her son-in-law, Harvey Seeback; a sister, Vivian Watts Davis; brothers, Vercie D. Watts and Vernon E. Watts; and a bonus grandson, Jonathan Telesford. Lucille was also preceded in death by many very close and loved nieces and nephews.
Lucille is survived by her two loving daughters, Judy Terrell Lofton Seebach of Rochelle, Ill., and Jerolyn Terrell Finnell (Harley) of Heath, Texas. Her daughters blessed her with four very loved and proud grandchildren, Della Elizabeth Lofton, of Pompano Beach, Fla., Charles Elwin Lofton (Michelle) of Brookhaven, Harley Terrell Finnell of Heath, and Brittany Finnell Brownlee (Greg) of Tulsa, Okla. In addition to her four grandchildren she is survived by seven great-grandchildren, Garrett Lofton, Morgan King, Cole Lofton, Lily Grace Lofton, and Cash Lofton, all of Brookhaven, Harley Cadden Finnell of Heath, and Parker James Brownlee of Tulsa. Lucille was blessed with a bonus family upon Judy‘s marriage to Harvey Seebach. Bonus grandchildren are Pam Telesford, of Riverside, Calif., Lori Hunter (Dave) of Sycamore, Ill., and Jim Seebach of Rochelle. Her bonus grandchildren rewarded her with eight bonus great-grandchildren, James Telesford (Rita), Brittany Murray (Tommy), Kenisha Pazin (Corey), Audra Murphy, Alec Seebach, Megan Seebach, Matt Hunter and Megan Hunter. Lucille is also survived by six bonus great-great-grandchildren. Many special nieces and nephews also survive Lucille. Family was very important to Lucille and she showed love and affection to all.
Lucille will be greatly missed by all of her family and many special friends. We would like to make mention and give a special thank-you to Judy Wallace, her friend and neighbor of many years who visited almost daily. Another special thank-you to Nell Griffin, a long time devoted family friend and one who loved our mother as her own.
To Jackie Smith and Pamela Woodard, words can never express how much we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the care and love you showed our mother. You have been a part of our family for almost five years and we can never thank you enough. Having each of you allowed Mother to stay in her home, attend her church, and visit with her friends like she wanted to, until she was no longer able. Be proud of yourselves, we are. Your caring devotion will always be remembered and you both have been a blessing.
The family thanks everyone who has visited, called daily, and shown Lucille love and support over all her years of life.
