Dantez Frith, Cameron Stewart stay in jail after court appearance
The two suspects arrested in the shooting death of La’Curtis Hackett near Bogue Chitto will remain in jail for the time being.
After initial appearances Tuesday in Lincoln County Justice Court, Dantez Frith, 22, of McComb and Cameron Stewart, 19, of Magnolia were denied bond in the shooting, which occurred last Friday evening.
Each man faces a charge of murder. Chief Deputy Johnny Hall Jr. said the investigation is continuing.
Hackett was shot about 5:30 p.m. Friday by two assailants who kicked in the door of a music studio next to a home on Mill Creek Lane west of Bogue Chitto. Two other people were in the studio, but only Hackett was shot in what Hall said appeared to be a targeted killing.
Arrests were made in the case quickly, with Frith booked into jail on Saturday night after being picked up by Pike County deputies. Stewart turned himself in on Sunday.
Hackett had faced charges in the 2020 shooting death of Austin Wanzo, but a Pike County grand jury would not indict him in the case. Hackett claimed the gun he was holding in the back seat of a car behind Wanzo had misfired.
Hackett was declared dead Friday night at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Brookhaven. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Craft Funeral Home.
