Pike County sheriff’s deputies are investigating the killing of a woman whose body was found on a Bogue Chitto River bridge Tuesday night.
Officials said a passer-by discovered the body of DeAirrika Sharrice Conerly, 19, 2033 McComb-Holmesville Road, on Alford’s Bridge Road and reported it to authorities at 7:12 p.m.
Officials said Conerly apparently died of a gunshot wound to the back of the head.
Pike County Coroner Percy Pittman said he pronounced her dead at the scene.
Sheriff’s officials declined to say this morning whether they had a suspect, citing an ongoing investigation. They said an autopsy has been ordered.
Conerly was a 2010 graduate of North Pike High School and had previously attended McComb Public Schools, where she was an honor student.
Alford’s Bridge Road is located in the northeastern part of Pike County.
