A Michigan woman with ties to McComb, has been charged with two felony charges in the death of her 6-month-old son who authorities say was already dead when he arrived at the hospital last week.
Lovily K. Johnson, 22, was charged on July 20 with murder and first-degree child abuse. Grand Rapid, Mich., media reported that she was booked into the Kent County jail on Thursday.
Kent County Prosecuting Attorney Christopher Becker said both sentences carry a maximum sentence of life in prison, WZZM-TV in Grand Rapids reported.
Johnson lived in McComb and was a student in the McComb School District.
According to news reports, she went before a judge on Friday but did not testify. Johnson was reportedly on probation for embezzlement from a business and was ordered to stay away from Woodland Mall in Kentwood, Mich.
Authorities believe the abuse of her son, Noah Johnson, occurred at a home Johnson was staying at in Wyoming, Mich.
Authorities said Johnson took her son to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital around 2:35 p.m. July 19. They believe the baby was already dead when she arrived with the child.
Johnson also had a 2-year-old daughter who was placed under supervision of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services after her arrest.
She reportedly has an upcoming probation violation hearing for the embezzlement charged. WZZM reported that in September 2016, Johnson allegedly embezzled less than $200 from a business.
Kentwood District Court Judge William G. Kelly also fined Johnson $455 in fines and court cost and ordered her to perform 40 hours of community service.
The judge issued a bench warrant for Johnson in the embezzlement case. Her violations include failing to pay fines and court costs, not performing community service and failing to seek and secure a job.
Johnson remains in the Kent County jail.
