Osyka Elementary School’s Pre-K students will soon have new playground equipment.
South Pike board members accepted a $21,000 donation from the Weyerhaeuser Giving Fund to Osyka Elementary School at the monthly board meeting Thursday.
The grant will be used to purchase playground equipment for Pre-K students.
In other news, the board:
• Accepted a $300 bid from Fernwood Baptist Church for all existing playground equipment on located at the old Fernwood School. With the bid, the playground, which has been lying idle and unsupervised for a while, can become a safe place for children to play.
• Approved a request from the Magnolia Basketball Youth Association to use the Eva Gordon Gym starting March 2019.
• Hired Eva Gordon Upper teacher Sara Martin, replacing Alma Bridges.
• Hired substitute teachers Ardis Brumfield and Cynthia Slay.
• Approved Osyka Elementary School principal Angela Lowery’s request for a book fair. Proceeds will go toward books and supplies for the library.
• Approved South Pike High School principal Camita Dillon’s request for the JROTC to sell boiled peanuts. Proceeds will go toward expenses for the military ball. The board also accepted Dillon’s request for the BETA Club to sell Welch’s fruit snacks. Proceeds will go to the club.
• Approved the BETA Club’s request to attend its state convention in Biloxi.
