Two Lincoln County men, one wanted for a bank robbery in late August, are on the lam after leading authorities on a high-speed chase that began in Brookhaven Saturday. Another man was arrested and charges are pending in connection to the chase.
Lattrick Williams and Christopher Stringer, no ages and addresses provided, are wanted by the Brookhaven Police Department. Williams was involved in an Aug. 31 bank robbery at State Bank and Trust in Brookhaven.
According to the Daily Leader, Stringer was indicted for conspiracy to sell cocaine, attempted possession of a controlled substance within 1,500 feet of a church, sale of less than 2 grams of cocaine within 1,500 feet of a church and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The Daily Leader reports that an unnamed Lincoln County deputy’s ankle was broken when his unit was rammed during the chase through the city of Brookhaven and into the county.
Brookhaven Police Chief Kenneth Collins told the Leader that charges are pending against LaRon Smith, no age and address provided, in connection with the pursuit.
Smith’s leg was injured and he was taken to Jackson hospital.
Collins said the department was given a tip that two other men, Williams and Stringer, were together in a black Chevrolet Tahoe. He told the Leader the SUV was spotted on East Monticello Street near Star Drive-In a little after 7 p.m. Saturday.
He said the men led officers through the city along Green Street to West Minnesota Street and onto Highway 51. The vehicle then went through red lights toward Brookway Boulevard and onto I-55.
On I-55 North it traveled in the wrong direction at a rate of 100 miles per hour.
The SUV then left the interstate at Bogue Chitto with the Mississippi Highway Patrol and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department in pursuit.
The chase went past the Bogue Chitto truck stop and back onto I-55 North, this time headed in the right direction.
Collins said the SUV left I-55 at the South Brookhaven exit, then traveled Union Street Extension to Industrial Park Road.
The SUV rammed into the deputy’s unit on Sawmill Lane.
Collins said shots were fired at the SUV to stop it “...but they continued to go.”
The SUV then went down Old Wesson Road before being stopped by authorities at a mobile home park behind Lincoln Apartments, where Smith was apprehended, but Williams and Stringer avoided capture.
Collins said he’s not going to give up or stop until Williams and Stringer have been captured.
