A Brookhaven man with outstanding warrants in Lincoln County now has charges in Pike County after allegedly hitting a woman in the mouth after she wouldn’t let him stay with her.
Victor Sanders, 12055 Old Port Gibson Road, Hazlehurst, has been charged with possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and simple assault, Pike County Chief Investigator Chris Bell said.
Bell said Kendra Weedle came to the department around 11 a.m. Thursday to report an assault.
Weedle told investigators that Sanders assaulted her after she told him he couldn’t stay at her home.
Bell said Weedle told investigators that Sanders was on the run in Brookhaven and she didn’t want him staying with her.
She said he was in the area of Pecan Street in Fernwood by the railroad tracks.
Bell said a records check on Sanders revealed he had several outstanding warrants in Lincoln County, as well as prior convictions.
According to the Daily Leader, Sanders and another man, Shakur Magee, were wanted by the Brookhaven Police Department for the brutal beating of a man Aug. 25 at Hayes Trailer Park, 401 Industrial Park Road.
Chief Kenneth Collins told the Leader in August that the men “jumped on” the unidentified man. They face aggravated assault charges.
Bell said deputies went to the area and tried to make contact with Sanders.
After officers searched the area around Dogwood Trail in Fernwood, Sanders was spotted running through the woods.
He said Deputy Brandi DeMoll and K-9 Deputy Hercules were called to the area, and Hercules located Sanders hiding in a wooded area. Sanders was found with a Smith and Wesson SD .40 caliber handgun.
A records check on the gun showed it was reported stolen in Brookhaven.
Sanders was charged in Pike County and is also being held for Lincoln County.
In an unrelated case, the McComb Police Department is investigating a burglary that happened Wednesday night between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Detective Sid Boyte said Shaniqua Beecham reported to officers that someone broke into her home on Nebraska Avenue.
He said the burglar or burglars allegedly broke a window to gain entrance into the home and took a PlayStation 4 game console with four games, an XBox360 game console with two games and two Hoverboards.
Boyte said nothing else was taken from the home. The incident is under investigation.
