TYLERTOWN — Walthall County school officials are trying to tame the fundraising beast. Superintendent Wade Carney told school board members Tuesday that district policy now says each school club is limited to no more than two fundraisers per semester.
“I’ve instructed the administrators on this,” Carney said. “There’s no way we (in the central office) can keep up with this. The principals need to keep up with this.”
Exceptions can be made under the policy, such as to help send a state contest winner to a national competition.
Carney said he had already approved an extra fundraiser for breast cancer awareness and research, because it’s a good cause.
“We do want to appease the public, so they’re not bombarded by requests to buy raffle tickets or something,” Carney said.
The superintendent noted that, in keeping with nutritional guidelines, no unhealthy snacks may be sold on campus as part of any fundraiser.
