A Walthall County man who escaped from custody on April 25 while attending his grandmother’s funeral in Tylertown has been captured in Mexico, Walthall County Sheriff Duane Dillon said today.
Mexican authorities onDustin Broussard had been released for the funeral from the Marion-Walthall County Regional Correctional Facility, where he was awaiting a hearing for probation violation in connection with third-offense DUI and arson convictions. During the wake, Dillon said Alysha Broussard took her mother-in-law’s car keys, got Pat Broussard’s car and picked up Dustin, who managed to slip away from a deputy guarding him and get out of the building.
Wednesday captured Dustin Broussard and his wife, Alysha, in Cabo San Lucas. Dillon said the Broussards have been turned over to U.S. Marshals, and are being held in the Phoenix City Jail awaiting extradition to Walthall County.
Broussard, son of Walthall County Circuit Clerk Pat Broussard, will be charged with escape, Dillon said. Alysha will be charged with aiding and abetting a fugitive.
Dillon said the couple drove west to Mexico, crossing the border at Laredo, Texas. He said Mexican authorities are not sure how long the Broussards were in Cabo San Lucas.
