TYLERTOWN — It’s still more than two months till 2019, and election qualifying for state, regional and county offices isn’t open yet, but candidates are already making their intentions known.
With Bob Bracey making it known he will retire and leave the Walthall County chancery clerk position open, deputy clerk Cindy Ginn is tossing her hat in the ring.
Ginn said on her new Facebook page, “Cindy Crain Ginn for Chancery Clerk,” that she has 25 years of experience working for Walthall County with Bracey and his predecessor, Denver Kennedy.
She also claims more than eight years of business accounting while working for Brumfield and Associates before she was employed by the county.
In her position in the clerk’s office, Ginn serves as payroll clerk, backs up the clerk and comptroller and assists the inventory clerk. She also helps to compile budgets and to write and oversee grants to the county.
Ginn is married to Roger Ginn and has five children and 11 grandchildren. She and her husband are members of Centerville Baptist Church, where she serves as treasurer and sings in the choir.
If elected, Ginn would join a growing contingent of female chancery clerks in southwest Mississippi and statewide, including Becky Buie of Pike County, Jana Causey of Amite County and Jill Jordan Gilbert of Franklin County.
Prospective candidates for elective office may begin filing qualifying papers in January.
