TYLERTOWN — Walthall County officials expected a federal inspector to visit a county road project this week.
County road manager Jeff Duncan said federal officials had expected the installation of a new culvert on Old Sullivan Road to be completed already. An inspector was assigned to visit when the county didn’t send a notice of completion for the project.
Supervisor Shelton Stogner said he would arrange to have a county contractor start work on the project this week.
Additional inspections, unrelated to the federally funded project, will be held on two bridges on East Lexie and Twin Bridges roads to assess load limits.
Duncan also reported that the state sent an order accepting the completion of an emergency project on Old Highway 24 for the reconstruction of bridge abutments.
Duncan said he would also oversee an inspection of the courthouse. That process is required under the terms of a grant from the Mississippi Department of Archives and History that will help the county install gutters, paint and make other improvements to the historic structure.
