The brother of a Magnolia man who along with his wife was found dead Friday in their mobile home has been charged with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
Pike County sheriff’s deputies charged James Richard Connors Jr., 56, 1037 Huskey Lane, Magnolia, on Tuesday, according to county booking records. He is being held in the county jail in lieu of $20,000 bond.
Chief Deputy Steve Rushing said no other charges have been filed against Connors pending further investigation.
Connors was at his brother’s mobile home at 1040 Huskey Lane when sheriff’s deputies arrived on Friday afternoon and found the bodies of Kenneth R. Connors, 64, and his wife, Sandra Capitano Connors, 59. The three adults were the only people in the trailer, authorities said.
James Connors was living with his brother and sister-in-law, officials said.
Deputies went to the trailer after receiving a call from a concerned relative who was unable to contact Kenneth Connors.
Pike County Coroner Percy Pittman said the preliminary autopsy reports on the couple indicated the cause of death was gunshot wounds from a shotgun. He said Kenneth Connors had wounds from bird shot and buck shot. Sandra Connors was struck by bird shot, he said.
Several guns were taken from the mobile home, but Rushing would not say if any of them were used in the shooting, pending a review of the autopsy report.
Rushing said deputies took James Connors into custody after he was released Tuesday afternoon from Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center, where he was taken Friday with unspecified medical problems.
He said investigators were able to briefly interview Connors after he was charged.
