United Givers of Southwest Mississippi’s third annual golf tournament is Oct. 15 at Quail Hollow Golf Course at Percy Quin State Park, United Givers director Michelle Lombas told the Pike County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors Monday.
Lombas said the tournament will be hosted by the chamber’s ambassador team, adding that tee time for the four-person scramble tournament is 1 p.m., with registration starting at 11: 45 a.m.
Entry fee is $45 per player, $300 per team and $350 per corporate sponsor. The entry fee covers lunch, 18 holes of golf, a cart, refreshments on the course and at the awards program.
“We’ll be giving a lot of prizes away during the tournament,” Lombas said.
She said that prizes will be given for the longest drive, the straightest drive, and the ball closest to the hole on all four of the course’s par three holes. There will also putting contest.
There will also be Awards for the top three scoring teams.
In a related item, Lombas said that United Givers is about 8 percent — $11,759 — in pledges toward its goal of $150,000.
“That’s a good start,” she said. “Usually, things are slow this time of year when we start our annual fund drive,” she said.
In other action, the board:
• Reappointed Betsy Murrell to a three-month term on the Pike County Economic Development District Board.
Chamber president Chad Smith said Murrell, whose term on the economic development board expired, agree to serve until December. Smith said the economic development district board is reorganizing in January.
• Discussed a plan by the McComb Main Street Association for a “scouting trip” to attend the Festivals Acadiens et Créoles on Oct. 8 to get ideas to develop a festival for McComb.
The board took no action.
• Discussed plans for a legislative breakfast later in the year. The board took no action pending further information from program director Tammy Menard.
Menard also asked board members to form a committee to determine a theme for the McComb Christmas Parade.
• Learned that the chamber’s website had 449 new visits between Aug. 17 and Sept. 19.
Menard said the majority of the website visitors were from Mississippi, Louisiana, Florida and Illinois.
• Learned that Ginny’s Gifts &Collectibles, Pineapples Gifts & Accessories, Smoothie King and First Baptist Church McComb have joined the chamber.
Lombas, who is also the chamber’s membership director, said Smoothie King is expected to open near the end of the month.
