Walmart is announcing the closure of two stores in Tangipahoa Parish, La., as it prepares to shutter 269 stores worldwide.
The world’s largest retailer said it is closing its Express stores in Kentwood and Independence on Jan. 28.
The express stores are smaller than the Supercenters Walmart operates in larger markets. The retailer also operates another store format known as s a neighborhood market.
Walmart began opening express stores in 2011.
Of the closures, the express stores are taking the biggest hit, with more than 100 of those expected to close.
Walmart also announced Friday that it will be closing 23 neighborhood markets and 12 Supercenters, along with seven stores in Puerto Rico, six discount centers and four Sam’s Clubs.
Of the closures, eight are in Louisiana and six are in Mississippi — in Belmont, Mantachie, Sardis, Walnut, Dermas and Nettleton.
Walmart operates some 11,600 stores worldwide.
