Lane changes and a traffic signal are on the way for the intersection of Delaware Avenue and Anna Drive in McComb.
The city board on Tuesday authorized engineering firm Neel-Schaffer to provide services to help the city develop signal improvements to the intersection at a cost not to exceed $15,000.
Neel-Schaffer and MDOT representatives will meet with area businesses and property owners to discuss the project.
Neel-Schaffer representative Keith Lott said changes to Anna Drive will alter the design of and turn lanes on Delaware Avenue and the interstate ramps.
“We need to get everyone on the same page,” Lott said, referring to business owners, and city and MDOT officials.
Once that happens, MDOT and Neel-Schaffer will begin work on the project design, which will be a separate project.
In another matter, the city will allow people attending a neighborhood reunion in Burglund in June to consume beer in public.
Selectmen approved waiving laws against beer consumption in the 400 block of Summit Street, between Georgia Avenue and Marquette Street, for the Burglund reunion, which will be held from noon to 8 p.m. June 16.
The board was set to vote on a motion to allow beer consumption between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., but selectmen Tammy Witherspoon and Andranette Jordan proposed substitute motions to the later timeframe.
Portions of the streets will be blocked off during the festival, city officials said.
In other business, the board:
• Authorized allocating about $2.08 million from the city’s enterprise fund for Phase II of the Summit Street sewer interceptor project.
City Administrator Quordiniah Lockley said the move will increase the city’s odds that the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality will approve the city’s request for a State Revolving Fund loan to cover the project’s costs. The board approved the loan application Tuesday night.
“We have to show in recordkeeping that we have the funds,” Lockley said. “We’re not expecting to use the money.”
