A McComb teenager has been charged with armed robbery after a New Year’s Day report by four young people in Edgewood Park.
McComb police arrested Janarian Octavious Hill, 15, 120 Gillis Circle, about 30 minutes after the 6:47 p.m. robbery. He is being charged as an adult in the case and was being held in the Pike County jail this morning in lieu of $250,900 bond.
He also is charged with disobeying a police officer in connection with his alleged attempts to elude police.
According to police reports, Hill approached the people in the park and asked if any of them had a cigarette lighter.
When they said no, Hill allegedly pulled a gun, pointed it in the face of Bradley Brock and demanded money. He allegedly took $75 and two cell phones, and fled the park on foot. Officers recovered Hill’s cell phone, his jacket and a .380-caliber handgun in Edgewood Park shortly after the robbery.
An officer called the last telephone number contacted by Hill’s phone, spoke with Hill’s father, told him that he found Hill’s phone and wanted to return it to him. From talking with Hill’s father, officer’s were able to get Hill’s name and address.
While they were looking for Hill, officers received a report from a patrol officer that he had seen Hill in the 800 block of North Railroad Boulevard, and that Hill ran into a nearby wooded area.
When they arrived in the area, officers saw Hill come out and then go back into the woods, and began searching for him.
Hill allegedly resisted officers attempting to arrest him, and they subdued him with a Taser before taking him into custody. Officers recovered the money and one of the cell phones taken in the robbery.
