A Foxworth man who is jailed in Lawrence County is suspected of committing more than 50 burglaries in half a dozen counties over the past three months.
Lawrence County undersheriff Willie Wallace said Brian Martin, 33, remains jailed in lieu of $130,000 bond.
Wallace said Martin has been charged with eight counts of burglary in Lawrence County, and he is suspected in 11 burglaries in Amite County, eight in Pike, 18 in Walthall, seven in Lincoln and at least six in Simpson County.
Wallace said charges may be pending in other counties, and Copiah County authorities were expected to question him today.
Pike County Chief Deputy Steve Rushing said charges are pending against Martin.
Wallace said Martin was arrested Dec. 14 after a resident came home and caught him in her back yard.
“It had been raining and he pulled his car into the back yard, and got stuck, Wallace said. “The woman came home and she could see him in the back yard using a four-wheeler she owned to try and pull his car out.”
He said the woman called 911 and a deputy in the area responded to the call and arrested Martin.
Martin, Wallace alleged, “Wasn’t your typical burglar. He was looking for cash and he liked computers — laptop computers. We only recovered one gun he stole from a house in Walthall County, and that’s the only one we recovered. He said that was the only one he took.”
Martin has been cooperating with authorities, Wallace said.
“They’ve all had him, and he’s been talking with them. He said he wants to clear it all up.”
