A fire early Tuesday morning destroyed the home of Summit Police Chief James Isaac.
McComb Fire Department Capt. David Fischer said firefighters along with help from the Summit and Sunnyhill volunteer fire departments responded to the fire at 6014 Enterprise Road at 4:52.
He said the home was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived, and heavy fire filled the home.
Fischer said the home suffered extensive damage.
No one was home at the time of the fire.
While the cause remains under investigation, Isaac said firefighters came to the home and checked on some hot wires in the attic the night before.
“They killed the power and recommened no one was in the home until we had an electrician look at the wires,” he said. “There could have been hot wires somewhere else, I don’t know,” he said.
Isaac said he got the call about his house from dispatchers early Tuesday morning.
Isaac said the experience has been mentally devastating but he’s thankful no one was hurt.
“You try to put it in the back of your mind, but it doesn’t stay there,” he said. “If I was home, your headline would read entirely different.”
He said if he has a moment, he drives around and comes back to the office to do what he has to do.
Isaac said his insurance company is providing temporary lodging in a local hotel.
He said if anyone wants to donate, he’s thankful.
“Whatever God puts on someone’s heart to give, I will be receptive and thankful,” he said.
