The Pike County chamber of Commerce has named Jamie Stone its 2015 president.
“Every request that has been given him, he has given 110 percent. We think he has a lot of excellent ideas for the chamber’s future,” current chamber president Gay Austin said.
Stone will take over as president in January.
Stone, is the owner of Legacy Investments and financial Planning in McComb, is the chamber’s community development division representative.
In another matter, chamber membership grew by 29 new members for the month of August alone, after the chamber’s annual membership drive. That increases the total number of chamber members to 436, and according to Executive Director Catherine Sanders, it continues to grow.
“It could change by the day. We still have businesses we are contacting or re-contacting. Others are contacting us,” Sanders said.
In other business, the chamber’s board on Monday:
• Named Breckenridge & Kyzar Insurance the October Business of the Month.
• Noted the chamber’s annual golf tournament will this Saturday. Tee-off is 9 a.m. at Fernwood Country Club. Registration is 7:45 a.m. Fees for four-person scramble are $100 per player, $400 per team and $450 for corporate sponsors, plus a $100 tee box/green sponsorship. There also will be contests for putting, longest drive, closest to hole on all Par 3’s and straightest drive.
• Noted that chamber officials affiliated with the Mississippi Scholars program recently met with a Mississippi Economic Council representative and area high school counselors to discuss plans for nest year’s banquet. “We expect this to be the biggest year ever for the program,” Sanders said.
• Cancelled the Dec. 16 quarterly breakfast meeting.
• Noted that the chamber, Mississippi Economic Council and the McComb Rotary Club are hosting an MEC regional roundup on Oct. 22. The event will be at the Southwest Mississippi Community College Workforce Training Center.
