Summit’s fifth annual Smokin’ on the Tracks barbecue cookoff kicks off Friday.
The event starts at 5 p.m. with live music and food and that runs to 9 p.m.
The town will close Robb Street at noon Friday.
The festival grounds will run along Robb Street and Railroad Street.
Blues artist Artis Brown, a.k.a. Red Sugar Blues, will perform from 5:30 to 7 p.m., and then New Generation takes the stage until 9.
At 8 a.m. Saturday, the PALS Racin’ for Rescues 5K walk/run kicks off, with proceeds benefiting the county no-kill animal shelter. Registration is $25. Runners can register at the event.
The festival resumes at 10 a.m. with live music, a car show along Robb Street and the Hogs at the Depot bike show.
The Jubilee Performing Arts Center performs at 10 a.m., followed by The Hobo Trio at 11:30 and Jamey’s Blues Trio from 1 to 3 p.m.
Judges will give barbecue cookoff awards for best chicken quarters and/or wings, ribs, pork butts or shoulders, and beef brisket.
First place receives $150, second gets $100 and third gets $50.
Teams can register all the way up until the day of the event.
Registration is $50 per category or $150 to enter all four.
All categories will be judged on appearance, tenderness, texture and taste.
