The South Pike School District recently named LaTorria Robinson its Parent of the Year.
Other honorees were Delcreysha Varnado for Eva Gordon Lower Elementary School; Percy Martin, Eva Gordon Upper Elementary, Dewayne and Roneca Johnson, Osyka Elementary; Shannon Johnson, South Pike Junior High; and Audrey Cole, Career & Technical Center.
Robinson has a child who attends South Pike High School.
Principal Camita Dillon said Robinson doesn’t just go over and above for her children, she does over and above for all of the students and staff.
“Mrs. Robinson doesn’t only do things for our students, she also does things for the students at Westbrook (Head Start). She buys little trinkets, toys, baskets for the pre-school students so they can feel like they’re appreciated,” she said. “When we began the year, Mrs. Robinson prepared lunch for entire staff and brought it to the school. She personalizes blankets for the staff and we raffle them off. And she and her husband have also donated $250 for a scholarship for a senior this year. They’re on our PTA and they have things in the works for teacher appreciation week.”
