A Dollar General clerk in Pricedale is taking time off after two men held guns to her head on Tuesday night during an armed robbery.
A store employee who asked not to be identified said two men entered the store around 9:15 p.m. wearing clothes that completely hid their identities.
She said the men shouted, “This is a robbery” before allegedly threatening the cashier with guns.
A clerk said the men took more than $500 from the register and unsuccessfully tried to break into the plexiglass case where cigarettes are stored before fleeing toward the back of the store.
The clerk said there were four customers shopping at the time of the robbery. The men knocked one of them down and chased two young boys to the back of the store.
She said the boys were able to get away through an emergency exit and run across the street to ask a neighbor for help.
On the robbers’ way out, they knocked a man down who was stocking in the back of the store, and hit another man in the head with a gun.
Deputies arrived shortly after.
Pike County Sheriff Kenny Cotton said deputies’ response time wasn’t bad, but because the store is in a rural area the suspects had places to hide once they exited the store.
